I don’t know what this says about my current taste preferences (well, I kinda do), but my favourite thing about our chat with Ottawa’s Dominion City is the fact that Canadian craft breweries are truly nailing hazy beers. Finally.
Above the invisible line, we’ve always had problems getting our filthy paws on the hazy, juicy, turbid NEIPA that has been ever so popular — and relatively widespread — in The States. As one would imagine, that has been pretty frustrating for us beer nerds north of the
wall border, especially with our American Instagram brethren rubbing it in our faces, literally, every day.
So, the fact that breweries like Dominion City are now brewing fantastically fruity, hazy, juice bombs really helps alleviate some of the FOMO we’ve been suffering from for so long. And the beers aren’t just hazy — they’re really, really good. DC’s Co-Founder Josh and Head Brewer Scott really take this stuff seriously; they’ve traveled to the U.S. repeatedly to work and collaborate with American breweries known for NEIPAs, which has refined their methods and processes to the point where their beers just keep improving with every batch. I can only imagine how good they’re going to get.
We meet all sorts of people in the craft beer industry via our podcast, and a lot of brewers up here (and in stateside, to be fair) are really against the whole haze craze. Being that my co-host Scott and I are Haze Craze fanboys, it was super cool to chat to some guys who were just as fanatical about the popular style as we are. While the beer scenes across Canada are growing and improving daily, Ottawa is truly a city to watch. With some of the (arguably) best breweries in the country operating out of the capital, I’m really excited to see where this goes.
And as always, if you missed the last few pieces of video content, fret never, here they are. Check out the full length audio via Apple Podcasts, too!
