Budweiser Maker, AB InBev, Buys Brazilian Craft Brewer, Colorado

If you can't beat 'em, buy 'em up. That's AB's default strategy in 2015. Unfortunately for them, brewers in the US have banded together - because of pressure from the craft community - to say no thanks to the industry goliath. Rumors have abounded recently of AB making moves to buy American craft breweries, and then those rumors just fade into the ether. So, AB has set its sights on the Southern Hemisphere where there are beer revolutions much easier to quash because they are in their early stages. Keep an eye on Latin America, especially Brazil. Sam Adams Extends Startup Brewery Competition to Include Wild Card Round

To help expand its coaching and mentoring program, Brewing the American Dream, to more small businesses across the country, Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream has partnered with Entrepreneur Media to launch the Pitch Room Wild Card Competition. The online contest - ending Jul 30 - will allow small business owners in the food and beverage industry to submit a product sales pitch for a chance to win a $10,000 business grant and extended mentoring from the brewer.  Read More

New Alpha Brewing Co. In Hot Water With Some Over New Beer's Label

There was a firestorm of offense on the Internet this week after images of the label for New Alpha's Submission Ale hit social media channels. Many are claiming that not only is the label a slam on Islam, but that it also supports depicting women in roles of subjugation to men. The story probably picked up more steam because of attention brought to other sexist craft beer labels from writers like Will Gordon and the Brew Studs' own Stacey Lynn. Read More

It is Officially Ohio Brew Week


OBW is a 9 day long celebration of Ohio craft beer. Every Summer, the best craft brews from all over the state take over the taps in Athens. From July 10-18, uptown will become a gathering place for brewers and beer lovers to drink together and toast with a huge array of Ohio’s finest beers. 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of the celebration. A New Zealand Brewery Has Made Fuel From Beer


DB Export, a brewery in New Zealand, announced last month it had created a biofuel made using leftover yeast from brewing beer called "Brewtroleum." the company recycles yeast slurry, which would otherwise be thrown out or given to animals, and turns it into ethanol that can be mixed with regular petroleum fuel.
