Century Bar and Warped Wing Brewing Company have collaborated on another barrel-aged craft beer. It will commemorate the kick off the construction of Century’s new 1920’s inspired speakeasy cocktail bar, which will be located in a historic Dayton, Ohio building that was once home to the Kette and Sons Whiskey Company.
During Dayton’s flood of 1913, the Kette building was destroyed by fire. Afterwards, Kette, seeing prohibition looming, exited the whiskey trade and opened a candy store.
“That inspired the name and store front for our new speakeasy lounge,” said Century’s Joe Head. “It’s a great story and we want people to experience the rich heritage Dayton had during that place and period in time.”
The name of the new 8% ABV beer is a tip of the hat to Kette, who was and will be remembered as a Dayton icon. It is coal black in color with aromas of cocoa, vanilla and bourbon and notes of dark roasted malt, bourbon and hints of wood with tannins from the barrel.
“The Kette’s made and sold rye whiskey, so we decided to use rye whiskey barrels as our aging vehicle,” said Head. “And because my favorite style of beer is Porter, we worked together with Warped Wing’s Brewmaster John Haggerty to develop the beer.”
This very limited draft only release will be available at Century Bar November 8th. The Century will host a toast event at 5pm to celebrate the kick-off of construction at Kette’s Kandies. It will also be available in the Warped Wing taproom.
Warped Wing Brewing Co. is a craft brewery inspired by Dayton’s rich history of innovation and invention. We are committed to carrying that spirit forward in today’s craft beer scene by brewing new proprietary beer styles and our own “warped” interpretations. We also focus on creating unique seasonal and specialty beers. We have a full-scale production brewery in the heart of downtown Dayton in the site of the old Buckeye Brass & Iron Foundry circa 1938. We brew and distribute our beers to local restaurants, bars, grocery and retailers in the Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus markets. In addition to distributing our beers, we have an Industrial style Tasting Room where guests can sample our various beer offerings while appreciating views of the downtown skyline or the cathedral of stainless steel. If you are on-the-go, we will sell growlers, package beer and kegs to share with friends off-site. We also offer food service via our friends at Spent Grain Grill.
