Rams fans and alumni rejoice; Old Aggie Superior Lager is now available from Ft. Collins to Pueblo, just in time for football season. The collaborative beer between New Belgium Brewing and Colorado State University (CSU) is a crisp golden lager that prominently features CSU’s ram mascot. The packaging has a green and orange vintage color scheme to evoke the school’s rich agricultural history and tradition. The beer is a year-round offering that is only available in Colorado.
Taking specific notice of brewery needs and offering protection against a variety calamities.
“As a CSU alum, it was an incredible experience to craft this beer alongside CSU,” said New Belgium Brewer Cody Reif. “We created a light-bodied, all-malt beer that has hints of citrus and lemon. It’ll definitely pair well with college football season, but is refreshing and sessionable so you can’t go wrong with Old Aggie all year.”
Old Aggie celebrates many years of partnership between the two Fort Collins, Colo. institutions. New Belgium brewers hold adjunct positions and teach courses in CSU’s Fermentation Science and Technology program, and more than 100 CSU alumni currently work at New Belgium.
In 2015 New Belgium and brewery co-founder Kim Jordan gifted $1 million for renovations to the Fermentation Sciences lab on campus and in 2016, New Belgium contributed $4 million toward construction of Colorado State’s new stadium. The Porch, a New Belgium branded tap room housed within the stadium, is officially open for home football games.
“We’re delighted to collaborate on this project with New Belgium Brewing,” said Tom Milligan, CSU’s vice president for external relations. “We have a long-standing relationship with New Belgium, with many of our alumni working for the brewery. And New Belgium has been a generous supporter of numerous programs and projects at CSU. We’re excited for Old Aggie Lager to be available to fans statewide.”
