Over 20 craft breweries will converge on Asheville, NC for the 2019 Sharpen the Blades Showcase.

Burial Beer Co.‘s annual celebration of Saisons, the beer style that inspired and help spawn the Asheville, NC brewery, will once again take place on the South Slope this Sunday, April 27. Fans of funky, fruity craft beer–both local and travelers–can expect more of the same from this year’s Sharpen the Blades, as the pours will come from style experts hailing from all over the world.

Beginning in 2014, what this showcase has proven year after year is that it has become the perfect way to transition from the bites of Winter into the rites of Spring. The name Saison literally translates to “season,” and as Burial puts it, now is a time that should remind you of the agricultural bounty we all share in to create and consume great liquid. And along with the myriad of malty metamorphosis one would expect from a post-equinox celebration of suds, Sharpen the Blades has made sure to pair the pouring with a special spring menu and an appropriate musical lineup.

In addition to food, live music, Saisons and mixed culture beers from over 20 craft breweries, the 2019 Sharpen the Blades will also feature a floral popup and CBD products, both from local Asheville businesses. Inarguably, one of the most spectacular earmarks of Sharpen the Blades is that there is absolutely no price for admission. It is not a ticketed event, which also means that you should expect to pay per pour, like a regular visit to the brewery.

Burial’s taproom will open at 12 p.m. and will feature 23 different saisons and mixed culture beers. 8oz and 12oz pours of each event beer will be available, as well as other house beers on tap at the front and back bars that are not saisons. Gypsy Jazz band One Leg Up will be playing from 2-4 p.m. with Billy Cardine and North of Too Far Downs (Appalachian/Jazz Fusion) playing from 5-7 p.m.
