Atlanta Craft Brewer SweetWater Releases New Bacon Smoked Porter

El Danko finally sobered up and got a hankerin’ for some BBQ.

It was just long enough to get back in the brewhouse after a 2-year bender! The Southern craft beer icon teamed up with the bros of Fox Bro’s BBQ (Justin and Jonathan Fox — the gents you see above) to come up with a smoked bacon porter, Pulled Porter.  Over the course of three days, the crew from Fox Bros. smoked one ton of malt on their wood-burning Lang smokers, using nothing but hickory. Each batch of malt smoked for 5 hours at 250 degrees to get a nice toast and plenty of good smoke without burning it.  To add that extra bit of oink, racks of bacon were tossed in the smoker to infuse the smoking malt.

Pulled Porter is SweetWater’s first Dank Tank brew since April 2014, and they’re having a release party in Atlanta this Sunday (Jan 17, 2:30-4:30) to celebrate the new beer. The party menu will feature pork sammies from Fox Bros, and the first 200 folks through the door will snag #propersglassware. Admission is $10 at the door. Draft pours and 22oz bombers hit shelves all over their distribution footprint starting Monday.
