Founders Brewing Co. is celebrating its 20thanniversary this year, culminating with a free street party to take place at the Grand Rapids brewery’s taproom on Saturday, October 14. Adding to the celebration, Founders will also release Tank Bender, a bourbon barrel-aged eisbock. Tank Bender will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis exclusively in the taproom on October 14. It will be sold in 750mL bottles and custom gift sets.
Created in the tradition of brewing a unique, high-gravity beer in celebration of Founders’ significant anniversaries, Tank Bender follows in the footsteps of Deca, brewed for the 10th anniversary and Bolt Cutter, brewed for the 15th anniversary.
This rare release represents Founders’ first foray into the rare style known as eisbock. The style involves freezing water off the beer, resulting in ultra-concentrated flavor, deeper body and, in Founders’ case, a bent tank from collapsing ice. A liberal addition of Munich malt highlights the toasty and dark fruit notes, while a stay in bourbon barrels tames those intense flavors.
“It means so much to celebrate our 20th anniversary with the fans who have been with us since the beginning – the people of Grand Rapids,” said Co-Founder and President, Dave Engbers. “To offer them this special beer just goes to illustrate the importance of our home base. Here’s to twenty more!”
The 20th anniversary party will take place on October 14, 2017 from 11am to 2am. Bottles sales of Tank Bender will begin at 10am until 11pm or until they are gone (whichever comes first).
Performing at the party will be Founders very own employee supergroup, the FBC All-Stars, and others to be announced. Additionally, there will be food trucks, special deli offerings and more.
